I have recently published my first novel, "Give Me Liberty." The story is about a young woman who finds the courage to leave her abusive alcoholic husband, and move to New York with her three year old son. What makes the story special is that it takes place in the early 1950's, when women didn't get divorced every day. "Give Me Liberty" is about a brave and determined young woman who wasn't afraid to take a chance, in order to make a better life for herself and her little boy. It's a story about hope, strong women, and the way things used to be.
I was born in 1957, and in my lifetime I have seen many changes taking place in the lives of American women, my own included. In doing research for the book, I gained a much clearer perspective on that period of time. It wasn't all "June Cleaver." There was so much more going on under the surface.
Now I'm thinking about my next book, and I've decided that the story will take place in the 1960's. Some good material there, right?
